Vector Graphics

  • Vector graphics made with paths , which are defined by a start and end points along with the other  points , like curves, triangles,circles and angles along the way.
  • The World Wide Consortium(W3C) gives a standard name to the vector graphics called Scalable Vector Graphics(SVG).

  • Vector based images are not made up of a number of dots per inch.So,when we enlarge the image also it will not loss the clarity and quality.


Advantages Of Vector Graphics :

  Vector Drawings Are Scalable :

  • They can be scaled to whatever size you want without losing the quality.

   No Image Distortion :

  • Vector graphics are not made up of pixels,they made with the individual shapes.So,when we enlarge or increasing(Zoom) the size of a image it will not the loss the quality.

Vector Graphics Are Easy  To Re-edit :

  • Components in a vector graphic can be individually designed. When you edit it, you don’t have to repeat the entire design. You will choose the parts that you want to edit and you could do it easily.

Smaller In File Sizes :

  • When compared with the pixel oriented images file size vector images is less. 

    • It Is Ideal For Detailed Information :

    • Since vectors uses lines, it is easier to work on detailed images. Also, your detailed illustration will look sharp.

    Disadvantages Of Vector Graphics :

    • Vector graphics will supported by the modern browsers only.Old browses will not support the Vector graphic images.
    • Vector Graphics will not used in Photos.
    • Another disadvantage is that, even small drawing errors are often visible,when the images are enlarged.
    • The location of each vertex or line/shape need to store separately.
    • The very important disadvantage of vector image is time consuming and also specific talent must be needed to create it.

      • AI - Adobe Illustrator.
      • EPS - Encapsulated Post Script.
      • DRW - Drawing
      • DXF - Drawing Exchange Format.
