Mother Board

  • Motherboard is the essential part of the computer. It is the printed circuit board.
  • Motherboard connects the different components together. It contains sockets / slots for the RAM ,ROM,CPU,Power and other functional components like Graphic cards,Network cards and Sound cards.

Location Of MotherBoard :

  • Generally, Motherboard is placed in the bottom of the computer.

Integral Parts Of The MotherBoard :

Central Process Unit[CPU] :

  • CPU also known as the microprocessor or the processor, the CPU is the computer's brain.
  • CPU is responsible for fetching, decoding, and executing program instructions as well as performing mathematical and logical calculations.

Random Access Memory[RAM] :

  • Random access memory is volatile, meaning it loses its contents once power is turned off.
  • This is different from non-volatile memory, such as hard disks and flash memory, which do not require a power source to retain data.

Basic Input and Output System [BIOS]:

  • BIOS is essentially the link between the computer hardware and software in a system.
  • BIOS is a "read only" memory, which consists of low-level software that controls the system hardware and acts as an interface between the operating system and the hardware.

Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor Random Access Memory[CMOS]:

  • CMOS battery is used to prevent the reconfiguration of the PC each and every time.
  • CMOS battery will not allow to lose the data like :
    • Date and time.
    • Information about CPU.
    • RAM size.
    • Power Saving settings.
    • Serial and parallel port information.
    • Floppy disk and hard disk drive types
    • Plug and Play information.

SATA Connectors :

  • SATA means Serial Advance Technology Attachment.
  • SATA ports are used to provide connectivity for the storage devices and optical drives.

Northbridge and Southbridge :

  • The Northbridge is responsible for coordinating the data flow between the memory, the video card and the processor.
  • Southbridge, has a similar function, coordinating the data flow between the processor and peripherals such as sound cards or network cards.
